UMC disaffiliation
I hate when I have to talk about this. But it is a part of our reality.
The future of The United Methodist Church is unclear. For several years, we have faced a vote that would, most likely, lead to a split of the denomination.
There’s a lot still up in the air that keeps me from guessing what will happen. What is sure is our denomination faces a change.
Recently, the Judicial Council released a batch of decisions related to church disaffiliation. The council is The UMC’s top court. There are local congregations that don’t want to wait for a vote. They prefer to leave the denomination now. The council’s decisions provide an appropriate path for that possibility.
I share this with you because it is the latest news associated with this important church topic. I have never had the impression Kelsey wanted to disaffiliate. In the coming years, we will need to have tough conversations.
But, in the meantime, we press on. There is still ministry we must share. We are still united in worship and fellowship. That doesn’t change. So, keep praying for our church and denomination. If you have questions about what all this means, let’s talk.
Stay blessed…john
