Our Methodist family

In a recent sermon, Pastor John talked about the many Methodist denominations there are. Methodism isn’t just one denomination. The Methodist movement, started by John Wesley in the 18th century, has grown into several distinct branches, each with its own unique emphasis while holding to common roots.

The United Methodist Church (UMC) is the largest Methodist denomination, known for its global reach and emphasis on social justice and mission work. Other groups include the Free Methodist Church, with a focus on holiness and simplicity, and the African Methodist Episcopal Church (AME), which has a rich history rooted in social justice and the African American community. There are also the Wesleyan Church, the Methodist Church of Great Britain, and many more! The World Methodist Council recognizes 80 Methodist affiliated church “representing over 80 million members in 138 countries.”

Though we have different structures and traditions, all Methodists share a commitment to grace, discipleship, and spreading the love of Christ throughout the world.
