Blessing of the Backpacks 2024

Blessing of the Backpacks: A Special Blessing for All Students

As summer draws to a close and the excitement of a new school year begins, we invite all students to join us for a special prayer times at Kelsey: the Blessing of the Backpacks. This meaningful tradition will take place on Sunday, August 11th, during our worship gathering. We encourage every student–all ages–to bring their backpacks for a time of prayer, encouragement, and blessing.

The Blessing of the Backpacks is more than just a ceremony; it’s a moment to recognize and support the young members of our community as they continue their academic journey. Whether they are starting kindergarten, transitioning to middle school, starting trade school or preparing for their final year of college, we want to pray for God’s guidance and protection for them.

During the service, each student will be invited to bring their backpack to the front. Our pastor will pray over the students, asking for God’s wisdom, strength, and protection for the coming school year. This blessing serves as a reminder that they are not alone; they have the support of their church family and the presence of God with them every step of the way.

In addition to the blessing, each student will receive a small token to attach to their backpack. This keepsake will serve as a daily reminder of the prayers and support they carry with them. We hope it will be a source of encouragement and comfort, especially on challenging days.

We also recognize the importance of praying for teachers, administrators, and school staff. Their dedication and hard work shape the educational experience for our children. During the Blessing of the Backpacks, we will pray for them, too, asking for God’s guidance and strength as they fulfill their roles.

We look forward to seeing our students, families, and teachers. Let’s celebrate the beginning of a new school year, united in faith and support for one another. Mark your calendars for Sunday, August 11th, and don’t forget to bring your backpacks!
